Louis B. Christensen - Sustainable Building
Stories from the Yellowstone-Teton Region
City of Driggs Community Center
Thursday, May
17th - 3:15 pm

I was born and raised in Driggs. I have lived in many places
around the country, and even lived in Canada for a short period.
I
attended several schools, but finally settled on an education in the
computer industry, where I was hired by a company that became part of
NCR. I worked as a trainer and field technician until I was promoted to
management where I was the computer operations manager in Sunnyvale,
California. This also gave me two other data centers that I became
responsible for, one in Chicago and one in Baltimore. I had the
responsibility of making sure we had the proper
equipment, it was maintained, and budgeting for those items.
Occasionally when the company had a problem that the technical support
people could not repair, I was called in to resolve the problems.
I
also worked with a friend and partner in the San Jose, California area
as a general contractor and builder. We built custom homes, remodels,
and commercial tenant improvements.
Then
I had an opportunity to work for another large computer company from
England, called ICL, where I worked as a PC manager, being responsible
for hundreds of PCs and related equipment and software.
I returned to Driggs in 1992, and served on the Driggs
Planning and Zoning Commission as the Chair from 1993 to 1998.
In
1997 I was elected Mayor of Driggs and was re-elected in 2001.
