Gregory
Franta, FAIA
is the Principal Architect of the Rocky Mountain Institute, a
non-profit group based in Boulder, Colorado USA, that fosters the
efficient and restorative use of resources to make the world secure,
just, prosperous, and lifesustaining. Greg’s expertise is in
creating high performance, sustainable buildings through energy, water,
and resource efficiency, climate responsive design, material selection,
and indoor environmental quality.
Greg leads the RMI/ENSAR Built Environment Team. He has provided design
and consulting services on over 800 projects world wide, including
residences, offices, retail, public projects, laboratories, and new
communities. Many are considered the most efficient in the world and
have received high environmental accolades. He is the recipient of many
design awards on sustainable development, was the Colorado Architect of
the Year in 1998, and the 2006 Leadership Award of the US Green
Building Council.
Greg has been a key part of the U.S. Green Building Council
in assisting with the creation of the LEED Green Building Rating
System, LEED Technical Advisory Group, LEED faculty, and LEED
Certifications. He also is the co-founder of the Commi ttee on the
Environment for the American Institute of Architects and is
Past-Chairman of the Sustainable Buildings Industry Council.
