Yellowstone County is dominated by Billings, the commercial and industrial center of south-central Montana and gateway to Yellowstone National Park to many tourists arriving by air and driving from the upper Midwest. Billings has a diversified economy thanks to oil and gas, livestock, health care and banking industries. The Chamber of Commerce promotes Billings as a desirable convention destination with plenty of recreational side trips to offer before and after the scheduled meeting days. After struggling to compete with larger cities to recruit new companies, the Big Sky Economic Development Authority decided to invest in existing businesses to help them succeed and expand. The Yellowstone Business Partnership will recruit businesses in Yellowstone County that identify with the Greater Yellowstone region and seek to build a sustainable economy.
